Recurring Payments for Subscriptions

Screenshot of the "Recurring payments for subscriptions" card

Use the "Recurring payments for subscriptions" settings to control how the discount applies on subscription orders. We intentionally used the same options as Shopify does.

Options

  • Limit discount to the first payment: No recurring payments will receive a discount; only the first order.
  • Limit discount to multiple recurring payments: The first order, and a finite number of recurring payments will receive the discount. The number you enter includes the first order. For example, if you enter 3, then the first order and 2 subsequent payments will be discounted.
  • Discount applies to all recurring payments: The first order and all recurring payments will receive the discount.

Use cases

  • "First order of a subscription only" / "First box free" — set to Limit discount to the first payment. Not the same as "first-time customer" (use a customer number of orders == 1 condition for that).
  • Intro pricing for N months — set to Limit discount to multiple recurring payments with the count (including the first).
  • Permanent subscriber discount — set to Discount applies to all recurring payments.

These settings are tied to Shopify's API and not directly implemented by our app. You can find more information about these settings here:

Where to find these settings

This setting is part of the collapsible Advanced Options section at the very end of the discount page as highlighted in the following screenshot.

If you're currently in the fullscreen logic builder, click the "Back" button at the top left of the screen to escape to the "Edit" page and find these settings.
