This article explains how to create discounts that apply only to specific Shopify Markets, or exclude certain markets entirely.

Click the thumbnail above to watch a video tutorial.

Example Use Cases

  • “25% off Collection ABC in Germany and Japan only”
  • “Apply a discount in all markets except the US”
  • “Create different discounts for each market (e.g. 10% in Canada, 20% in UK)”

How to Use Market Criteria

1. Grant Market Access

If this is your first time using market-based logic, you’ll see a banner:

“Markets access has not been granted”

Click Grant Access to continue. You may be prompted to leave the page—click OK to proceed.

2. Create or Edit a Discount

  • Click Create Product Discount
  • Give it a name like Markets Demo
  • Click Edit Logic

3. Add Market-Based Criteria

You have two options:

Option A: Use the AI Generator

  • Describe the discount in plain English, like: “25% off Collection ABC in Germany and Japan”
  • Click Generate
  • The logic will automatically include the appropriate market condition

Option B: Manually Add Criteria

  • Click Add Criteria
  • Choose Include or exclude markets
  • Select one or more markets to include or exclude
  • Example:

Include: Germany, Japan

Exclude: United States

4. Combine Market Criteria with Other Conditions

Market rules can be used alongside any other criteria—such as product, collection, quantity, or customer tag.
