# Unique Discount Codes in Shopify

Shopify requires every active discount code and discount title in your store to be **unique**. If you submit a duplicate, Shopify rejects it outright.

Our app handles this for you:

* If you enter an in-use title or code, we **warn you and link to the existing discount** so you can decide what to do.
* If you continue anyway, we **automatically append a short numeric suffix** (e.g. `WELCOME` → `WELCOME2`) so Shopify accepts the save. There's no separator — just digits.

If you see a code or title ending in extra digits, that means another discount in the store already owns the original. Find it in your Shopify discounts list, then rename / delete it (or keep the suffixed version) — whichever fits.
